Welcome to my online home. Thanks for joining the journey as we talk about leading a traditional church in a transitioning community and culture. Feel free to join in the conversation with your comments, too!
It’s Noon, and the results are in……THANKS! to the folks who stopped by and commented (and to those who stopped by and didn’t comment (you know who you are and I do too!)) and the winners are:
Peppermint Filled Pinatas, Eric Michael Bryant Crazy Love, Francis Chan Life with God, Richard Foster
I’ve got another book tucked into my briefcase that I was holding out on (for reasons that will become apparent this weekend). So..I’m out of the office, off to the house, gonna throw it all in the PT and cruise on to the mountains with the family.
Hopefully I can find a wi-fi connection (other than the local McDonalds–no, I’m not kidding!) and update sometime this week.
Tomorrow we’re headed to the mountains for a few days of rest and relaxation. Unlike past years where I’ve schlepped a backpack full of books, this year I plan to take only two or three books to read.
Here’s my “things to read” list. The top three votes go with me. The rest go back onto the “to be read” shelf.
Crazy Love, Francis Chan Life with God, Richard Foster Living a Life on Loan, Eric Swanson & Rick Russaw Peppermint-Filled Pinatas, Eric Michael Bryant The Attentive Life, Leighton Ford The Multiplying Church, Bob Roberts Waking the Dead, John Eldridge
Is there one book not on my list that you would say is an absolute-must-read this week?
I need to know by Noon on Thursday. Comments are open. The clock is ticking!
Over the last few weeks, several guys whose blogs and ministries I’ve been following have posted about their baptism services. God’s anointing is so evident on their ministries. You gotta check these out:
1. Mark Batterson is pastor of National Community Church, in Washington, DC. They held their Baptism by the Bay a couple of weeks ago. Here’s a link to this year’s video. Videos from the previous two years are available there, too! (Warning: Have your box of tissues handy!)
2. Steven Furtick is pastor of Elevation Church in Charlotte, NC. They prayed that God would let them baptize 1,000 during their recent Awakening sermon series. This weekend they baptized 1,044 people. WOW! Here’s a link to Leo’s Story.
3. Scott Hodge, pastors The Orchard Community in Aurora, IL. This past weekend they held their BBQ & Baptism event, and they baptized 138 people! Here are pictures, and here is a video testimony.
It’s so awesome to see how God is moving all across our country! What’s God doing where you are? Leave a comment and share your story!
