Sunday Summary 07.13.08
by Rob ~ July 13th, 2008. Filed under: Sunday Summary.Today was a great ending to an awesome week!
- The Scripture this morning was from Matthew 13:1-17–the parable of the sower and the soils
- My theme was “The Recklessness of God”–God recklessly broadcasts the seeds of blessings on our lives.
- Bottom line: What kind of soil are we? What kind of receptors of the blessings of God are we?
- I told some of the countless stories of how God recklessly showered His favor on the World Changers project this week.
- Last week we collected just over $600 at the combined service to buy backpacks for students at Cradock Middle School.
- Another $350 came in this past week.
- We also found a possible source for good backpacks, and the more we order the better the price we can get.
- Someone has challenged us to provide a loaded backpack for every student at CMS, not just the 75% of the student body who show up the first day of school with no school supplies at all.
- Many area stores are starting their back-to-school sales. If you’d like to participate in this project to bless our Middle School, then grab some school supplies while the prices are low!
- I shared this morning that the Portsmouth Sheriff has promised 10,000 pencils for our project. These will be bought out of money seized in drug busts.
- Just FYI….10,000 pencils laid end to end would reach from the entrance to Cradock at GW, down Afton, circle all the way around the square, and continue all the way down past our church and to the end of Afton at Victory, and still have some left over….they would reach 1.26 miles!
- We’ve got an event in the works for September that is going to be totally off the hook when it comes together.
- Joshua left this morning for a week at Boy Scout camp. I don’t know who is more edgy about that…Catherine or me….it’s his first week away from home.
- After the service, Catherine, Caitlin and I headed over to Williamsburg where we’re going to hang out for a couple of days to relax.
- Off to bed soon……more later!
