Sunday Summary 06.15.08

by Rob ~ June 15th, 2008. Filed under: Family, Sunday Summary.

I actually tried to post an installment earlier this afternoon from my Blackberry, but something didn’t work….not too surprised…. Verizon’s Blackberry Pearl is pretty much a piece of junk..so this will be one more thing in my litany of discontent for this week when I call Verizon tomorrow…..but that’s another post for another day……It’s Sunday night….and it’s been a pretty cool day!

  • It’s Father’s Day. Always makes me an emotional basket case. I miss my Dad…this is the 10th Father’s Day without him, and I still miss him terribly.
  • Scott Hodge has a great post about his Dad today.
  • The ladies in our church made breakfast for the men today. It was really sweet!
  • Today’s attendance was really down….guess everybody was visiting with their father somewhere else.
  • We had a dear former member back today to visit with us…she is almost 101 and sharp as she can be!
  • The message today was entitled God’s Biggest Problem
  • Lots of people have lots of ideas about what God’s biggest problem is…but it’s not what they think
  • God’s biggest problem is that there are not enough workers in the harvest
  • If we are going to reap the harvest we’ve got to quit sitting around like big baskets hoping the harvest will leap into our basket. Wishing the harvest into our basket won’t do it either.
  • We’ve got to see the harvest, care about the harvest, and go into the field in order to reap the harvest.
  • We’ve got to surrender our prerogatives if we’re going to reap the harvest.
  • After church today, our family loaded up and headed over to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg. It was kinda of a Graduation/Birthday/Anniversary/Father’s Day celebration all rolled into one. You can check out some of the pictures  on Twitpic.
  • There were practically NO LINES today. Anywhere.
  • Josuha and I had one objective today: Ride all 5 roller coasters in one day.
  • We succeeded. In fact, we did it in under 4 hours. And that was with numerous other rides thrown in, too.
  • We got  front row on Alpengeist, second row on Big Bad Wolf, Loch Ness Monster, and Apollo’s Chariot, and ended the day with front row on Griffon.
  • THAT was a rush!  There’s nothing in the world like hanging 205′ in the air with nothin under you before dropping at 70 MPH. We were pulling to many G’s on the way down that I couldn’t get my arms up!
  • We also enjoyed lots of other rides too….we rode Escape from Pompei…..rode it, got off, got right back on. No lines!
  • I rode Tradewinds with Caitlin. I hate that ride, but she loves it. I could not, however, do the Teacups. That one does make me hurl!
  • It was so much fun to get to hang with the family. We rolled in about an hour ago.
  • We’ve got a community-wide Prayer Walk next Sunday afternoon at 4 as part of the run-up to the Portsmouth World Changers project. If you’re in the area, come join us next Sunday!
  • Got a full week ahead. Pray for us when you think of it!
  • I’m hittin’ the sack. ‘Coaster lag is catching up with me!
