Sunday Summary 05.25.08

by Rob ~ May 25th, 2008. Filed under: Sunday Summary.

It’s hard to believe that it’s time again to punctuate the week with my Sunday Summary.  So, here goes….

  • I didn’t sleep well last night, but woke up early this morning. Got up and made some coffee and started to settle into my Sunday morning routine.
  • Maybe it was my allergies, which are still kicking my butt due to the legustrum (which is dying back, hallelujah!) and the stupid smoking room at the Holiday Inn at Dulles Airport this past Wednesday night.
  • Attendance was way down this morning. The folks who were away last week were back, and a different bunch were traveling today. Memorial Day weekend is not kind to us.
  • We had our Memorial Day Tribute at the beginning of the service today.
  • Sometime I’ll have to introduce you to Lester and his boots. Suffice it to say this fellow had an incredible career in the Navy. He survived being sunk in Pearl Harbor on the USS Pennsylvania and later on the USS Lexington, where he was again sunk, and was rescued after spending an hour in the ocean. (I’m not getting on a boat with this guy!)
  • Joshua presented the Colors today in his Scout uniform. He did a great job.
  • My message today was from Daniel 1 & 6 on  How To Be A Hero.
  • With all the other components in the service, I got up to preach about 10 minutes later than usual, so I never felt like I got into my groove.
  • I’m still processing on insights from WhiteBoard this past week.
  • I had to work hard to resist the temptation to preach the best lines from everybody’s messages today!
  • Clayton Bell has posted a great collection of photos from WhiteBoard over on his site.
  • Couldda been fun…but I think preaching Perry Noble’s message would have definitely ruffled some feathers!
  • We came home after the service, changed clothes, then headed over to the American Legion Post for the Memorial Day picnic there. Food was good and Caitlin enjoyed the pony rides.  Josh and I threw horseshoes.
  • We just watched the NASA Mars Landing on TV with the kids. I remember watching the moon landings as a kid with my parents on an old black & white television. Those are the things you don’t forget.
  • Looking forward to a great week ahead….wonder what God’s got in store for us?
